Pierre Turin (1891-1968) was an accomplished French medallist who studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieur de Beaux Arts and was a pupil of Frederic de Vernon, Auguste Paley and Jules Coulan.
He worked predominantly in the 'Art Déco' style. This medal was his most noted commission.
The Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris 1925 was a landmark exposition that showcased the very best of France's Fine & Decorative Art, industrial designers and manufacturers. Some of it's notable exhibitors included René Lalique, Emile Jacques Ruhlmann, Pierre Chareau and Edgar Brandt among others.
It was from this exposition that the style that we now term as 'Art Déco', became popularised and filtered through Europe then to the rest of the world to become an enduring international style.
