  • Luca Madrassi was an important Italian-born French artist best known for his bronze Art Nouveau sculptures of mythological and allegorical figures. His work was influenced by the famed French illustrator and sculptor Gustave Doré. Born on June 8, 1848 in Tricesimo, Italy, he went on to study under Pierre-Jules Cavelier at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later worked in the studio of Doré. Madrassi exhibited at the Salon de la Sociéte des Artistes Français from 1879 on, becoming a French citizen in 1890. The artist died in 1919 in Paris, France.

  • Maison Bouasse-Lebel was originally a printing house founded by Madame Eulalie Lebel in Paris in 1845. It specialised in religious imagery that included 'holy cards' or 'prayer cards'. In 1852, Eulalie’s son Henri bought the printing house from her. He introduced the production items other than religious images such as encyclopedias, maps & books. He also commissioned bronze items such as this seal to be retailed under their banner.
