G. Bedouin - Bronze 'Satyre' Bookends

An amazing pair of Art Déco bronze bookends finely modelled as kneeling Satyres. Deep brown patina. Mounted on shaped Potoro marble bases. Signed 'G. Bedouin' in the bronze. Each bronze numbered 5695 & 5700 consecutively.

French, Circa 1920

  • An internet search on the sculptor 'G.Bedouin' provided no references to the artist. It is probable the name was a pseudonym for a well-known sculptor. It was common practice for accomplished artists to adopt a pseudonym when working on commissions used for commercial enterprises.

CONDITION: Good antique condition commensurate with use & age. Wear to patina in parts, mainly the rear. Various minor chips & nibbles to base and very old repair to one marble base. Hardly discernible when placed.
