An Art Déco porcelain trinket box modelled in the form of a curled up desert fox, with hand-painted russet fur. Made by Theodore Haviland, Limoges after a 1921 design by Sandoz. Printed & Impressed marks to both base & underside of lid.

*Édouard-Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971) was a Swiss sculptor working in Paris from the early 1900s. He worked in bronze, ceramic and stone. He sculpted both human figures and animals but he was predominatly a 'sculptor animalier' who developed a distinct Art Déco style in the 1920s & 30s, for which he is most noted.
*Theodore Haviland was a porcelain manufacturer in Limoges, France operating his family's business that began in the 1840s. He was the son-in-law of René Lalique to his marriage to Suzanne Lalique, an artist & designer in her own right.
